$5.00 Sundays: Breakfast in Newburgh. First stop: Torino's Bakery 404 Broadway, Newburgh, N.Y.

Lenten Holiday Confections Are On Offer this February

Torino Bakery is our stop today for our first “Five Dollar Sundays: Breakfast in Newburgh” series which we plan on posting monthly.

Can you get some decent breakfast morsels for just five dollars? It’s a challenge we established for ourselves as a part of this series.

Our first foray proves, “yup, you can!”*

We headed out this rainy Sunday to Torino’s at 404 Broadway, Newburgh, N.Y. to investigate some of their “Old World Hearth Baked Goodness.”

Their cheery storefront illuminated by nicely garish neon beckoned us inside, and after popping a quarter in the meter (oh wait, it’s Sunday, no need) we headed inside.

Spotless Display Cases Feature All Manner of Confections

The shop is flanked on all sides with sparkling glass display cases neatly lined with 30 different styles of butter cookies, sfogiatelle like nonna used to make, and all kinds of breads including some no nonna ever made, like Irish soda bread, bagels, and challah. It’s very New York like that, though, and while it’s not Ferrara’s, it’s got quite an impressive selection!

We waited patiently and when our turn came selected one Italian style loaf of seeded bread @ 2.00, two bagels, one plain, one everything, @$1.80 for the two, and we grabbed a three-bagger bag, which included a muffin, and two cross buns from the .99 cent basket!

This was enough gluten to last a week, although Mr. AROO disagreed, and it seems the gluten might not even survive today, Sunday, the 25th of February.

No matter, there are plenty more breakfast spots and morsels to explore!

You should know, Torino’s doesn’t just do breakfast, they also offer gorgeous specialty and wedding cakes as well as seasonal items for the Holidays, including Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving.

Right now Easter and St. Patrick’s Day are themes, so expect to find Hot Cross Buns, the aforementioned Irish Soda Bread, as well as Ginger Bread, Easter Egg cake and other assorted holiday offerings.

You may visit Torino Bakery online here, or stop in daily they are open Monday through Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, from 5:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

They also serve Espresso and Cappuccino!

*Our total was actually $4.80, so we came in under $5.00!
