  The EPA  ruled that contractors and individuals who renovate, paint, or repair and potentially disrupt the atmosphere with activities that spread lead based paint dust (especially in: homes; schools; churches;  day-care facilities, etc., built prior to 1978)  must be certified. They must follow specific best practices to avoid lead contamination to the environments in which they work. Fines are severe and can be as much as $37,500.00 per each valid violation.
