Each year, Newburgh Open Studios opens the doors to numerous galleries, art spaces, and open spaces. Restaurants and pubs and shops get in on the fun, and hundreds of people from up and down the northeast corridor attend the two day event, usually held at the end of September.
Words are often inadequate to express the joy we have for the artists that have given their time and opened their spaces for the Newburgh Open Studios – – without the artists we would not have a tourMichael Gabor
The Open Studios concept introduces the public to Newburgh’s growing arts community. Artists’ work studios, gallery spaces and store front windows,as well as open spaces, are made available. Street maps are available and identify the location of events, spaces, and studios. This year’s tour featured a special launch event showcasing artist Ruedi Hofmann.
By showcasing a diverse selection of styles and artistic disciplines, from avant-garde video and sculpture to the artwork of a tattoo artist and a bookbinder; a dancer; and traditional oil paintings, viewers experienced a variety of media, technique, and form. And visitors could meet with the artists in a unique, community experience and in spaces not usually open to the public. All of Newburgh joins A River of Opportunities in saying, “Thank You!” to Michael Gabor and Gerardo Castro, co-owners of Newburgh Art Supply for their commitment and dedication to Newburgh.
